For some, 2016 was an amazing year. For others, 2016 was a very difficult year. In pop culture it seemed to have been a year where we lost many of our favorite celebrities. And for many of my friends, they have lost loved ones as well in the past year. No matter what challenges the last 12 months have brought, there are always lessons to be learned, successes to celebrate and much to be grateful for.
One of the things I like to do before planning my new year is to do a year in review. This year, I have decided to make the process a bit different and simply focus on answering these 16 questions. I encourage you to print out this blog post, grab a journal or notebook and find a quiet place over the next couple of days to answer these questions for yourself. Then you’ll be ready to plan 2017 and make it your best year ever! By the way, if you’re reading this post and it’s not the end of 2016, that’s ok. Simply look back at the last 12 months of your life when answering the 16 questions. Just like when you were in school, it’s better to write out full sentences rather than one word answers and to share examples too. If you’re not comfortable writing, find a partner and share your answers out loud together.
16 Questions to Ask Yourself Before the End of 2016:
- How did I serve?
- Where and how did I make a difference?
- Did I have fun?
- Who am I most proud of? (it can be yourself)
- Where did I travel to? (could be on a plane, train, car or boat)
- How much did I grow?
- What mistakes did I make?
- What would I do differently?
- How many lives did I impact?
- When did I leave my comfort zone?
- How much time did I spend with loved ones?
- Did I achieve my goals?
- Where am I holding on to grief, anger or resentment?
- What new habits did I adopt?
- How often did I give thanks?
- What am I most grateful for?
“It is better for you to take responsibility for your life as it is, instead of blaming others, or circumstances, for your predicament. As your eyes open, you’ll see that your state of health, happiness, and every circumstance of your life has been, in large part, arranged by you – consciously or unconsciously.” ― Dan Millman, Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives
