‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.’ – Matthew 7:7. Yesterday at the Archangel Summit, I got much more than I had asked more. And it was truly a day that exceeded my expectations. It was the first time I had invested over $1000 for a one day event – and Giovanni Marsico and his team executed a world class event, and I felt as thought I got so much more value than what I invested.
Gratitude Tip: It’s never about the dollars. It’s about where you are investing your time and are you gaining value – and proving value too. Attending a full day/evening like this is not just about what you can gain from the speakers and others around you, it’s also about how can you add value to other people at the event. When you fully engage and focus on being of service, even as an attendee, your experience of the event will change dramatically.
There are so many tips and nuggets of wisdom I could share from all of the speakers. It was truly an amazing line-up of some of my favorite mentors, including Gary Vaynerchuk, Robin Sharma, Natalie MacNeil, Seth Godin and Gretchen Rubin. I was also introduced to some other interesting and powerful speakers, including JJ Virgin – who shared her incredibly powerful story of overcoming major life adversity. I was surprised that I had never connect with her before, because she is an expert and celebrity in nutrition and health.
These speakers come from a variety of different backgrounds and life experiences. What they all have in common? Their ability to overcome adversity and thrive. It is their story that makes them so successful and so influential. Our gifts are often found in times of adversity, yet for most people that’s not how they see their life challenges. They are focused on woe is me or can often get stuck in a place of resentment and anger. All of these people had gone through difficult times – from dealing with rejection, to spending time in jail, to a family health crisis. And they were all able to learn and grow from these experiences rather than get stuck in the past and living with regret or being unable to forgive.
I remember that after I had woken up from being in a medically induced coma for a week and was home for a few days (you can read the full story here), one of my friends said you have the right to be angry about this and thought that perhaps there was blame to be placed on the doctor who did the minor surgery after my miscarriage. And I thought about it for a moment, and I knew in my heart that the only way to move forward and to heal completely, both inside and out, was to release any anger and focus on forgiveness, as opposed to blame. We will never know why I got the life-threatening bacterial infection. What I do know is that it was my tremendous sense of gratitude that saved me and helped me to heal in the weeks and months that followed.
‘It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.’Jim Rohn
We all have a story of adversity. We all have challenges to overcome. And we all have a choice on how to deal with it. These incredible speakers chose to learn and grow from their experiences and it was a foundation for their success.
What’s your story? I’m working on telling mine in a way that engages my audience and serves THEM. Sharing your story in not about you – it’s about how your lessons can add value to someone else’s life.
