Comparison is STILL the Thief of Joy

Trees don't suffer from 'comparisonitis'

Trees don’t suffer from ‘comparisonitis’

Yesterday I found myself caught up in comparison of my journey to others. And that is never a wise choice. In order to live a life filled with love, joy and gratitude, one must do everything possible to avoid comparing ourselves to others.

Gratitude Tip: There is only one you, you’re one in a billion. There will always be people who have more than you and less than you, accomplished more, accomplished less, succeeded more, failed more and want more than you. It’s completely irrelevant. Your journey is your own and there is no one else who is more perfect to live your life than YOU.

This is easier said than done in our social media world where people’s lives are on display 24 hours a day/7 days a week. I came across a beautiful blog from Australia, The Gratitude Project (great name!) by Ange Simson, health coach and gratitude guru herself, and yesterday she posted a video blog about ‘losing social media comparisonitis’. I highly recommend checking it out!

Today, be aware of how many times during the day you are comparing yourself to others. Keep a little checklist on your phone or even carry a small notebook and make a check mark when you get caught up in comparison. I’m heading off to one of my favorite networking events this morning, an easy place to experience “comparisonitis’ but I’ll be focused on how I can add value to others lives and vice versa. Because we all have unique strengths and gifts to share with the world. That’s what makes life so incredible – none of us are the same.

Don’t forget to join us for the 30 Days of Gratitude Challenge! Simply pick something from the list on this post and start today, for 30 days. Use the #30daysofgratitude when posting on social media for the challenge!
