Spring is here!

Spring finally showed up here in Southern Ontario! What a great day full of sunshine and warm(er) weather. Biggest detox challenge of the day? I wanted a cold, carbonated beverage while I enjoyed the sunshine. No matter, the feeling passed and Day 5 of the 30 Day Whole Body Detox was a success.

Here a few more tips for those who are starting their detox tomorrow. Don’t worry about making a new recipe for every meal. A simple green salad with our balsamic dressing works well, or even lettuce wraps. Many of the meals turn into larger portions so you may also find yourself with leftovers the next day for lunch. Just make sure you’re avoid the items on our list (gluten, dairy, alcohol, sugar, caffeine) when you’re thinking up your next meal. And if you have a favorite recipe of your own that fits into the detox program, please share it on our Facebook page. Who knows? Next year we may include you in our recipe book.

As I was planning to make a new recipe for dinner, I kept it simple for the rest of the day. Started out with one of my favorite smoothie, lots of greens, ½  of a frozen banana, frozen berries plus 2 scoops of Nutrimeal™ Free and 1 scoop of Fibergy. I should mention that if you plan on cooking with the Nutrimeal™ Free during the month, you will likely need to order a second bag.  No bake bars for snack again (these are staying in the rotation after, thank you Gorete!).  Lunch was a simple green salad with red leaf lettuce. My daughter wanted salad too, but I figured she’d prefer a lettuce wrap – she had a whole leaf with hummus, avocado and a hard-boiled egg. I love it when she wants to copy me.

We spent the afternoon outside, so we drank lots of water to stay hydrated. We ate an apple with veggies and hummus for a big snack, as we had worked up an appetite. For dinner, I decide to make our feature recipe, the Extra Green Frittata by Dr. Libby Weaver. The quantities are mostly estimated for the greens, but I made it work. I was out of parsley but easily substituted with cilantro. My big error came when I put in it in a Corningware dish, I should have used a rectangular glass baking dish as it would have cooked more consistently and likely faster. I will try it again later on in the month. The good news? It was delicious! My hubby approved as well. There are so many greens in this recipe, you think it might be too much, but it’s perfect.
