First Day of School!

2015-09-08 08.30.34It’s here! The first day of school! Seems like we’re the last ones to start this year, so I’m assuming that after today, most school aged kids will be back in class. Mother Nature also knows it’s the end of summer, I woke up to the sound of rain this morning. We’ve had extremely hot and humid weather over the long weekend, so it’s not surprising. As my daughter already observed, we’ll have to take an umbrella to the school bus stop.

Gratitude Tip: It’s true that children do see to grow up too quickly. And we have the impression that as we get older, time seems to pass much faster. The best way to hang on the moments of our day is to stop and be grateful. Gratitude allows time to slow down and gives us a minute to breathe and take in our surroundings.

What am I most grateful for today on this first day of school? Although I will miss spending my days with my daughter, I am looking forward to having some time to myself again. Even though I am an extrovert, I cherish my quiet time alone. In fact, I can get moody or frustrated when it’s been too long since I’ve had a moment alone. It took me a long time to figure that out.

I am also grateful for one of the best summers of my adult life. When I chose my business and career almost 9 years ago, having time with my future family was high on my list of goals. It was hard to imagine what it would look like at the time, since I was newly divorced and single. It’s really amazing how the decisions you make today, the actions you take and the vision you have can either create a life you love or a life you loathe. Which one have you created?

Happy first day of school to all of the new kindergartners! And hugs to the moms who are sending their little ones off to school for the first time this morning.
