Only a few days in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the Canadian Olympic Women have been dominating the medals so far. Seeing our women step up and on to the podium has been incredibly inspiring and powerful for all young women across the country. I am so grateful to see our women shine and grateful for their amazing efforts that have allowed them to land on the podium 4 times so far in these Olympics.

Gratitude Tip: It has always been a struggle for women and the Olympics. Women had to fight for inclusion in many sports, including the marathon which was not an event for women until 1984!! Women continue to fight for equality in sports and thankfully, we now see women’s boxing (2012), wrestling (2004), weightlifting (2000) and judo (1992). With the introduction of new sports, both women & men are included. And our Canadian Women won the inaugural Bronze medal in Rugby 7s.

The fight for equality for women continues daily and seeing our Canadian women shine at the Olympics sets a great example of what’s possible for all Canadian women. We’ve also seen some amazing women from other countries, including Oksana Chusovitina, the 41 year old gymnast who still competes at a world class level and is representing Uzbekistan. She defies the expectations and boundaries of what an elite gymnast ‘should be’. As a mom of a young girl, watching all of these women fills me with gratitude to see them create new ‘limits’ and stretch further than ever before.

We are only on Day 4 of these Rio Olympics, I am so excited to see what’s in store for the next 10 days. As Penny Oleksiak said after she won the Silver medal in Women’s 100 Butterfly, ‘We’re really going to surprise at this meet, I don’t think people know what’s coming.’

I will be looking out for more reasons to be grateful for the Canadian Olympic Women, and all other women at the games.

need a vacation, my smart startVacation is OVER! One thing I didn’t mention is that we tend to eat much differently when we are away from home. Although I continued with MySmartShakes in the morning, I ate a lot of foods that I normally don’t (a lot of corn!!) and more sugar than I am used to. I do feel like I need to reset before I head away again a few weeks after I get home, I’ve decided to the the new 7 Day MySmartStart Program starting on Sunday Aug 14th. It’s the newest program from USANA and I did back in June when the program was first released and we’ve had groups starting weekly. The great thing about this program is that you are doing 2 smoothies a day, 2 healthy low glycemic snacks plus one low glycemic meal, so it’s a program that can be repeated on a regular basis (unlike the 5 day program that was best done no more than once a season, or our 30 Day Whole Body Detox which is a once a year program). Would you like to join me? Take a peek on my website, www.supplementsburlington.usana.com (look under diet & energy tab) – you can even create a custom program! Already did the 7 day program? Great! You can simply purchase a bag of your favorite protein base, a box of bars and the USANA Supplements and you’re all set to join us. *We’ve already got two people committed to joining us!
