Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there! And a special blessing to all whose fathers are no longer here on earth today. There are so many different kinds of fathers in our lives, and today we celebrate all of them.
Gratitude Tip: It’s likely easier to be grateful for our dads if they were a part of lives growing up and we had a good childhood. So how do we find gratitude for a father who was absent in our lives? Or those who grew up without a father because they have two moms? Why not look beyond a father here on earth and above to our Heavenly Father? To create a human life, it takes an egg and a sperm. Perhaps gratitude can come from the gift of the sperm cell to help you to become a human being, right here and right now.
I am grateful to have grown up with both my parents and I learned so much from my father. We didn’t always see eye to eye when I was growing up and our relationship was strained at some points, however in our family instead of holding things in we tended to yell it out, so at least we didn’t carry around our negativity for too long :-). My father was an inventor and an entrepreneur, mixed in with being an employee (usually in sales). He is a self-taught computer programmer, who bought our first home computer when I was 6, in 1982. He would read programming books cover to cover to learn how to program. Eventually this became his business and he is still programming today. My father has always been there for me, even when he didn’t agree with my decisions, he was still supportive. I am truly grateful that my parents were supportive from the start in my USANA business, they were my very first team members and have been using the products daily for the past decade. And I am so incredibly grateful that my father is in excellent health.
Today may be a difficult day for many, as I get older, more and more of my friends are losing their parents and the first Father’s Day without your dad is probably the hardest. For all of you who are celebrating your father in Heaven, I send you lots of love and understanding today. I realize that time will come for me as well, so I cherish this day even more as my father is here.
And to the father of our daughter, I am so incredibly grateful that we are parents together. Not surprisingly, you and my father have many things in common and that makes me smile. I married a computer programmer, just like my dad. And my father and Dan are both very affectionate. Dan is an amazing dad to Céline and she lights up when he enters the room. They have so much fun together! And I love that we are truly equal partners in parenting.
Happy Fathers Day to everyone and enjoy this amazing gift of a day!
