mothers dayBecoming a mom is the greatest gift I have ever received. I also grew up with an amazing example for a mom. My mom decided to start her own translation business when my sister and I were young so that she could work from home and be there for us before and after school. Working from home wasn’t that common 30 years ago but my mom wanted both a career and a family, and she found a way to make it work using her skills and talents. I ended up choosing a similar path, creating a business that I can do from home and be there for my daughter at the bus and going to school when she’s got special events. I’ve learned so much from my mom and I’m very grateful that she is happy and healthy and back living in Canada with my dad.

Today I want to share a poem I wrote while I was pregnant with Céline. It’s the most viewed post on my entire website and since I wrote it 6 years ago, most of you probably haven’t read it. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers who are reading this. And sending extra special love to all of those women who would love to be mothers but have not yet been blessed with children. This can be a tough day for many women, and I want you to know that I’m thinking of you.

A Poem To My Unborn Daughter

My beautiful daughter,

You live inside me,

Growing, stretching, learning

A miracle of life and love.

When I was younger,

I dreamt of you.

My heart already knew you

Before you were even made.

The moment came and

You were finally created,

And I loved you in an instant.

I can protect you,

Keep you safe from the world,

Feed you and nourish you

Talk to you and teach you

Safe in my womb.

You have my full attention,

I always know you’re there

Feeling your movements,

Your reactions and interactions

Reassure me you’re well.

This special time is very short

For soon enough

You’ll be in my arms.

Will I be able to protect you?

Let you take risks,

Yet keep you safe?

The miracle is not simply

You growing inside me,

The miracle is that I will

Give you room to grow,

Once you’ve entered our world.

My beautiful daughter,

You’ve changed our lives

In such wonderful ways

I am blessed that you’ve

Chosen me to be your mom!
