And I’m really glad I finally did.  I’ve had a gym membership for over 2 years now and haven’t gone regularly for almost a year. So, why I am so happy to have cancelled? First, I had a membership at a gym that I really didn’t like – or to be honest – that I hate.  Yup, I rarely use this word, but when it comes to this particular gym, that’s really how I feel.  Do you have a gym membership? Do you use it? Ask yourself this – how do you feel when you go to the gym? Is it something that you look forward to? Or do you have to drag yourself there, dreading that time of day? One thing I’ve realized is that when it comes to exercise the best exercise to do is the one that YOU like. There are so many options for activities to do that it makes no sense to force yourself to do something you really don’t enjoy.  For me, swimming is what I truly love.  I have been going to the YMCA for the past month to swim a few times a week.  It doesn’t sound like much but as a new mom, two 45 min swims per week is a real treat!

For other new moms out there,  here are some of the options besides the gym.

  • Swimming lessons with baby
  • Aquafit with baby in a floaty
  • Mom n Baby Yoga
  • Salsa Babies
  • Walking at the mall

For the rest of you, some other options too:

  • Yoga, pilates or hot yoga
  • Running or walking group
  • Zumba fitness
  • Martial Arts
  • Trail walking or running
  • Swimming
  • Cycling – outdoor or on an indoor trainer

Take a look at the recreation guide for your town or city and find the option that appeals to you most! Find a friend and PAY for the class, and you’ll be much more likely to go.

In other news, I finally went out an bought some new clothes. Looks like it will be a few more months until I’m back to being my regular size, so I decided it was time to move out of the sweatpants and into some (non-maternity) jeans! Yes, it’s a big step! The one thing that is nice is that I finally feel better about my post-baby body, because I have clothes that fits. Sure, it’s a few sizes bigger than I’m used to, but once I got over that, I am happy I went out and did a bit of shopping.  Sweatpants – BEGONE!!
