Do you wake up every morning and give thanks for the gift of another day? Life is so very short and so very precious, are you approaching every day with gratitude? Are you making the best of the moments you have with your family and friends? Do those around you know how much you love them?
Gratitude Tip: In a blink of an eye, life can end. Yesterday morning, a friend of mine woke up without her husband. He died unexpectedly after feeling unwell following his regular hockey game. You can imagine that neither of them expected it to be his last day here on earth with her and her children. Every day we are given is so incredibly valuable. May we all live as Ghandi recommended: ‘Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.’
It was shock to see the post on Facebook yesterday, and it really affected me. I really couldn’t believe it had happened. Yet this happens every day. Someone loves someone they love, whether unexpectedly or with some warning, it’s never easy. And every time we experience this, for a few days, weeks or months after, we tend to have more reverence for life and cherish the moments just a little bit more than before. Then time passes, wounds heal, and the pain of loss is forgotten and we go back to living each day much the same as the day before, without the reverence and awe of this amazing gift we are given when we wake up.
My vision of a world where everyone wakes up and gives thanks is centered around this. It is truly a gift when we are given another day to be of service to others and to make a difference in their lives. Will you join me today in being present with those around you and making the most of this very special gift?
If you would like to support my friend Sara and her family, there is a GoFundMe set up to support them.
And on that note, I am going to visit my family in British Columbia tonight! I’ll be spending some time connecting with my sister and her family, and my parents and visiting a few friends along the way. I will continue to blog, however I may not blog every day. And since I am going to be on Pacific time, if you receive this via email, you might not get it until the following day (depends how early I wake up!). I am committed to making the most of the time with my family, as we only see each other once or twice a year.
