Most people don't lead their life, most people accept their lifeLast week, I spent a day listening to the Leaders Multiply event via live stream and the keynote speaker was one of my favorite mentors, John C. Maxwell. I have read his new book, Living an Intentional Life twice already and he shared wisdom from this book and his 40 years of leadership experience with us during the event.

Gratitude Tip: Who are your mentors? Where do you turn to for inspiration and wisdom? Are you filling up your cup daily with wisdom from the greats in your field? Personal growth is a combination of the desire to change and the wisdom to know how to. By listening to and learning from those who have already achieved what you are looking to achieve, your growth is accelerated. One of the greatest gifts I have received from my career as a Network Marketing Professional is the thousands of hours of mentorship and personal development, that has helped shaped me into the person I have become.

There was so much to learn from him and he spoke for over two hours, so I will distill what I found to be the most important wisdom that he shared with us.

He spoke about how to live an intentional life and there are three important points to this:

1.It’s deliberate: An intentional life is well thought out. And as I have said many times myself, ‘it is not a dress rehearsal‘.

2. it’s consistent: An intentional life is consistent, day in and day out. It compounds. It is the product of our daily habits.

‘It doesn’t show up in the beginning but it shows off in the end’

3. It’s willful: An intentional life is a choice that I make. The most important things in life are brought to me by choice. Everything that is worthwhile in life is uphill.

‘Most people don’t lead their life, most people accept their life.’

Intentional living is truly the best way to improve your life. You’ve got to take ACTION and Just Do It!

I have often shared my thoughts on these points and what I love about listening to John is that he is so genuine and so direct – there is no b.s. and he tells it straight. What caught most people’s attention is the quote, ‘Most people don’t lead their life, most people accept their life.’ It’s such a powerful statement and rings true for the majority of people. I invite you to take a closer look at this quote today and meditate on it – am I a leader in my own life? Or do I simply accept the circumstances of my life and react to them?

We are here for such a short time and it’s up to us to decide whether or not to design our lives or to simply let life happen to us. Beyond simply being positive and grateful, being intentional is about setting up the circumstances in our lives so that we can create our BEST lives and SERVE others with our gifts. Life is not meant to be Groundhog Day, waking up everyday to do the same thing over and over again, without meaning or fulfillment. Living only for the weekends and holidays, and simply plowing through the rest of our days. You are unique – a one in a billion miracle who is on this earth at this most amazing time in history. Decide today that your life is far too valuable to waste any more days on autopilot and start living intentionally. It’s completely up to you!
