Today marks a very special day. It’s been one year since I starting writing out what I am grateful for EVERY night. Yes, that’s right – every night – I only missed one the entire year (Dec 31st, thanks Leanne!).
My very first entry:
Aug 28, 2011
I am grateful for the spot on the overnight flight
I am grateful to have spent the evening and early morning with Leanne
I am grateful to have been able to hug my little girl 24 h earlier than expected
I am grateful to be a Usana Gold Director
The process is simple, I learned it from Shawn Achor, author of The Happiness Advantage. He suggested that a simple way to change your outlook on life would be to write down 3 things a day that you are grateful for and they must always be different. Within 21 days, there will be a shift in your attitude and your thinking. I adapted this somewhat and included 1 or 2 things that I am grateful for that do not yet exist in the physical world. As you can see from this very first entry, the last line is that I am grateful to be a Usana Gold Director. I achieved this goal 12 weeks later.
So what does a year’s worth of gratitude look like? I have been writing it on my Playbook and when converted to a Word document on my laptop – 48 pages, single spaced, 10pt font. What does it look like in my life? Let’s just say that the last year has been the best year of my life so far and there doesn’t seem to be any stopping it!
Today, I counted my blessings once again. I am so grateful to have a loving, wonderful husband, a beautiful, intelligent daughter, a lovely home to live in, fresh, clean water, a car, clean and new clothing, a thriving business, a wonderful team, a vibrant community….Life is great. And my vision in life is to help 1000s of other people to live their visions and to live a life of gratitude.
