Stop Wasting Today!
Every day I see a story on my Facebook newsfeed about someone who has passed unexpectedly. They had no idea that yesterday would be their last day here on Earth. And when we read about a tragic loss of life, perhaps when a child is taken far too soon, we pause for a moment and hug our own children just a little bit tighter that night. Yet when the next day rises, we forget about how valuable the gift of a new day is.
Gratitude Tip: Wake up and give thanks for another day here on Earth, for thousands did not.
You’ve heard me say this many times before and I’ve blogged about the value of our time many many times. However, it seems to me that for a large proportion of people, the pursuit of money is much more important than time. How many people do you know who are commuting more than an hour each way to work in the morning? I live near the GO Train station here in Burlington and find it hard to believe that a high-rise condo building is going up right beside the train station. Literally, about 100 m from the tracks. How many hundreds of people are going to choose to live there simply because they have to take the train to work every day and can save a few minutes on their commute?
TIME is our MOST valuable resource, not money. We all know that no one on their deathbed ever wished they had more time commuting or at the office. As I come to the end of 168 Hours, You Have More Time Than You Think by Laura Vanderkam, it’s evident that we all have much more time than we think. It’s just that we aren’t making the most of the time we have. I’ll leave you with this very powerful quote this morning:
‘”You wake up in the morning, and lo! your purse is magically filled with twenty-four hours of the magic tissue of the universe of your life. No one can take it from you. No one receives either more or less than you receive. Waste your infinitely precious commodity as much as you will, and the supply will never be withheld from you. Moreover, you cannot draw on the future. Impossible to get into debt. You can only waste the passing movements. You cannot waste tomorrow. It is kept for you.”
