Waking Up to Change

Justin Trudeau, Canada's new Prime Minister

Justin Trudeau, Canada’s new Prime Minister

Today Canadians woke up to a very different political landscape in our country. Canadians wanted change, and change is what we got. A truly historic election has brought Justin Trudeau, our new Prime Minister, a Liberal majority government. For a political party to go from 3rd place to 1st with a majority government in one election cycle is virtually unheard of. The Liberal gained 150 seats in this election.

Gratitude Tip: Today is a day to express our gratitude for Steven Harper and the Conservatives for their service to our country over the last 8 years. We may not have agreed with their politics (based on what we’ve seen in this election), but they served our nation in the best way they believed. And a day of gratitude for a country united in the vision for CHANGE for the future with Trudeau and the Liberals.

One of the things that stands out most for me in this election is that the political campaigning for the Liberal party focused on what Trudeau would do for Canada and stayed away from disparaging the other parties. On the other hand, we saw that much of the Conservative party’s campaign messages focused on negativity towards Trudeau and the Liberals. As Trudeau put it in his acceptance speech, ‘This is what positive politics can do’.

For me, there is a direct correlation to my own industry of direct sales. It’s sometimes easier to compare the company you represent to another company and point out all of the things that company isn’t doing well. Why not simply focus on what your chosen company does really well and how it stands out from the crowd, rather then point out the negative things about another company?

If we can all focus on being the best version of ourselves every day, which includes expressing kindness, gratitude and love towards our fellow humans beings, we will all be better served.

Tomorrow, I’ll be back to gratitude as usual and leave the politics to be better served by other news outlets and blogs. A historic event like this one deserves to be recognized by all Canadians, whether or not we voted for the Liberal party.
