Here we are – anywhere from a month to two months til baby girl makes her appearance. I was reflecting this week on all of the things I have done during the pregnancy that I swore I wouldn’t do. And I start to wonder what this means about my upcoming parenting skills!
First, there is all of the sharing on facebook. I had said that I wouldn’t share too much on facebook, not too many photos of the belly etc. Yet for some reason, I keep doing it! I have the urge to share my growing bump with the world. I feel like I’m the only person in the world who’s pregnant and it’s the most special thing ever and I have to share. Of course, I realize that I’m not alone and thankfully so since I have a great network of friends who are also going to be new mommies. What I did realize is that I like it when friends share their growing bumps with us on facebook, so I figured it was ok for me to do the same. And, truth be told, more than once I asked other pregnant friends to share photos too.
Second, the 3D ultrasound. I had been against it from the beginning. I mean, why spend $120 – $200 to see a photo or two of your little one in utero? He or she will be out soon enough, right? Well, thanks to friends who shared it on facebook (lol!) I was sold. And a good friend also told me about how great the experience was, so I knew I had to do it. The biggest challenge here is that we waiting too long to make the appointment, so by the time we went, it was harder to see her, since she’s been in a very comfortable position (facing my back) for some time now. We loved the experience though. Seeing her move, play, yawn, stretch and kick was just amazing. And we were able to get a few good photos to remember this very special (and very short) time. Here’s the link if you haven’t seen it:
Finally, one of the most unexpected things for me is how quickly my new community of friends has grown. I never expected this actually. Even though we’re not quite in the parents club yet, being pregnant allows us to be accepted. I even joined a mom group, which I didn’t think I would do until after baby came. Looks like I’m not the only mommy-to-be who’s part of a mommy group! We are really lucky to have such a strong community here in Burlington and Oakville.
Thank-you to all of you who have commented on the photos in facebook, it’s been a really wonderful journey so far and everyone’s support is truly appreciated.
